On offer is an authentic, vintage NAVAJO hand wrought. 925 sterling silver carinated angle three (3) band cuff bracelet adorned with a fine hand cut and polished southwest desert blue natural turquoise cabochon stone.
The stone is characteristic of turquoise from the Bisbee (smokey blue Bisbee) or perhaps Morenci mines in Arizona. The carinated bands appear to be made from hand pulled ingot silver. This bracelet is not hallmarked which was quite common in earlier Native American jewelry prior to the 1970's. It tested positive for sterling silver.
We believe this piece was created circa 1960 or perhaps earlier. This handsome bracelet was skillfully crafted in the traditional old NAVAJO technique with attention to detail and is in very good vintage condition (please see ALL photos for an accurate detailed depiction). The beautiful natural turquoise stone is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There is a surface matrix crackle that is only visible under magnification. The natural shaped smokey blue cabochon stone is firmly and securely set in a smooth silver bezel surrounded by silver rope with a hand stamped frame. 13/16" long x 5/8+" wide. Overall, the three (3) angle band bracelet measures approx. 1" tapering to 1/2" wide. The plaque is approx 1 1/4" long x 1 1/8" wide. The interior circumference of the cuff is approx.6 7/8" TOTAL including 1 3/8" opening. The cuff has a bit of flexibility for careful adjusting and weighs a very hefty 45.1 grams - 1.450 ounces. This traditional, well crafted vintage NAVAJO.
925 Sterling Silver and natural Bisbee Smokey Blue or Morenci Turquoise cuff bracelet created by a skilled Navajo artisan would make an outstanding addition to any Twentieth Century Native American Silver and Stone Jewelry, Fine Southwest American Turquoise, or Historic Cultural Arts and Crafts collection. We have been involved in the design and creation of contemporary jewelry at the undergraduate and postgraduate level since 1967. In 1975 we opened a gallery of hand wrought fine art contemporary jewels and have since handled thousands of unique, one of a kind and limited edition pieces crafted predominantly by American artisans with a special emphasis on Native American Art. Will be determined upon request.
